If you’re reading this, you are moving to one of the most respectable cities in the midwest, not to mention the entire country. Minneapolis truly is a city that has something for everyone. If you are totally foreign to the area, I’m going to give you some commonplace information about this great city that will help you to better get a feel for it and everything it has to offer. There is no way to publish everything to know about the city on a single article, that would be a modestly sized novel. But this will help you get your foot in the door.

I feel obligated to first warn you that if you are from somewhere that doesn’t have snowy winters, you are in for a rude awakening. If you are moving to Minneapolis from somewhere like Florida, Texas, or California it is going to seem like you are in a bad nightmare. But I hope this isn’t the first time you are hearing this. I don’t mean to scare you, it only seems right that I warn you. But with this warning does come some good news. Minneapolis has bountiful unique winter experiences that you truly can’t get anywhere else, and that makes it totally worth it. Not kidding, once you learn to start your car early so it has time to heat up each morning, you’ll learn to tolerate the climate, and love everything else it brings along, including the scenery.

Minneapolis has an expansive list of parks and lakes that serve as a relaxing step away from the downtown life, and are a great way to get out for some exercise. Minneapolis is a very healthy city, full of active people. The city offers programs such as the bike sharing where you can rent a bike from the city, located around Minneapolis, to go out and explore the city. This is not only a great way to get some exercise, but you will also see your new city from a whole new perspective.

Just to get this part out of the way, let’s talk about the Mall of America. Yes you need to go to it a couple of times. But I promise you it isn’t quite as magical after you have lived in the Minneapolis area for awhile. Yes it is great for gift shopping as there are more stores than any one person could ever need, but you probably won’t find yourself just hanging out there on a weekend afternoon more than once. But it is still important that you go out and experience everything it has to offer at least once.

Here are some random added bonuses about living in Minneapolis, that you weren’t told about. First, this city is booming as a tech hot spot. Companies are flooding here as the younger tech workforce continues to grow. Next, Minneapolis has such an abundant supply of coffee shops and spots that you’ll never be able to pick just one. Around every corner you’ll find the perfect place to grab a hot cup of something and stay to read a book. Last, but certainly not least, the beer. Since 2012 Minneapolis has become THE spot to start a craft-beer brewery and open up a taproom. This market boom makes for endless opportunities to check out a new spot, on the never ending hunt for your favorite brew.

You should now feel a little more prepared for your move to Minneapolis, and hopefully a little more excited. See you soon, neighbor.
